First Day Member Email 2024
4 Oct 2024 by Megan Lovell
Hello Kawana Nipper Families
We are just 5 days away from the start of our season. First day of Nippers is 6 October. Please read the below email as there is some specific and new information regarding being ready for the first day.
To Start Nippers You Must Have:
Pool proficiency complete (no pool form = no start)
Pink long sleeve rash shirt or pink high vis singlet
Club coloured cap
This year we are introducing electronic sign in via wristband and smartphones. Age Managers will give each child one red wristband, which is theirs to keep and needs to be brought to every nippers and training for check in and check out. If you lose a wristband, a replacement can be purchased for $5. This is a new procedure for all of us, so please be patient while we all adjust.
This year our surf club will be undergoing a renovation. While we wait for this to start and finish, there will be changes to access for storage and amenities throughout the season. We will aim to keep you up to date with this as much as possible. Please note for the first nippers, at this point, the member toilets will be open, our gear will be in the shipping container, and we will muster this season on the south grass. We have minimized the use of some equipment to make our year easier.
Office Hours This Week – Our surf admin will be in the office Tuesday and Wednesday only this week. You can collect rashies, purchase caps and swimmers, or settle any board or season fees on these days.
On the First Day:
Arrive early! Muster on the south grass (near the public toilets) from 7:30 for sign in. Morning announcements start at 7:50, nippers starts at 8 and ends at 10. Green caps finish early at 9;30.
Nippers need to arrive with swimmers, rashie and cap on. Sunscreen should be applied and a labeled water bottle placed in their age bucket. If you are a new family, please introduce yourself to your child’s Age Manager.
Reminder: At least one parent/guardian must stay at the beach for the duration of nippers.
At the end of nippers, children will be electronically signed out via their wristband. A parent/guardian must be present to collect children. If you leave early please speak to your Age Manager. Those in volunteer roles, such as WS who may still be in the water, or up at the BBQ, let your Age Manager know beforehand.
Additional Information:
Use a sharpie to write your child’s name on the side of their cap. This allows quick and easy identification for Age Managers and Water Safety.
Pink rashie collection and cap purchases will be available at the white picnic tables from 7:30am.
New set up/pack up procedure: The first age group to start at each arena will be in charge of bringing equipment to that arena. The last age group at an arena will be in charge of bringing that gear up. Parents please assist. Eg: U9 starts on boards so they will bring the extra CLUB foam boards down to the beach. U12/13 end on boards, so they will bring them up to the container.
Weekly Volunteer Roster – Each week a different age group is on volunteer duty. This includes set up, pack up and BBQ cooking/serving. Please help out when your child’s age group is on. If you are not helping in another volunteer role, this is your time to shine.
Don’t forget your nipper board if you are in U9 or older. If you leased a board, please bring this to nipper Sundays. Please make note of your board number, decorate with a ribbon or unique sticker and please make sure you bring your own board home. It is very easy to collect the wrong board.
Medical forms – On the first day your Age Managers will have medical forms to hand out to anyone who may require one. Please fill out and return to the Age Manager ASAP. If there is anything helpful that your Age Manger may need to know, please arrive early to speak with them on the first day.
Communication – If you are not on our app yet, and joined relevant access groups, please do so NOW. This is our main communication tool for calendar updates, training communication, cancelations or change of location. Download Stack teamapp, join Kawana Nippers and get into it!
Season Calendar – The first half of the season is on the app.
